All Olympic sports
What are the Olympic sports?
In the Paris 2024 Games, there will be 32 Olympic sports. Below, you can find out about them, as well as the qualifying process, schedule, and standings for the upcoming Olympics. You can follow all the live sports results.
Why was this portal created?
At @deporteminoritario, we have been advocating for the promotion of Olympic sports, both men’s and women’s, through our social media channels for years. Through these channels, we have been daily publishing all the results of Spanish Olympic sports achieved in competitions around the world.
Our experience has shown us that people enjoy Olympic sports, as evidenced by the growth we have experienced in our social media following over the years. The athletes of our country and their results are followed by a large number of people, more than what mainstream media leads us to believe.
The problem for most people lies in the difficulty of accessing different websites to follow the sports that interest them, whether it’s results or live streams.
What is an Olympic sport?
The sports considered Olympic are not fixed; many of them come and go from the Olympic program easily. First and foremost, they must meet three key requirements of the Olympic Charter:
The sport to be included must be practiced in a significant part of the world. It should have a presence in 75 countries and 4 continents for men’s events, and 40 countries and 3 continents for women’s events. This clearly reflects the International Olympic Committee’s (IOC) intention and is reflected in the qualifying processes that take place in each Olympic cycle.
Maintain strict control over doping. Any sport aspiring to be Olympic must adopt and correctly apply the World Anti-Doping Code. This code is implemented in most sports, both Olympic and non-Olympic.
Sports must be accepted at least 7 years before the respective Olympic Games in which they will participate. This allows the relevant federations to organize themselves effectively in terms of the qualifying process, and athletes to plan well in advance for their qualification.
In each edition, many federations submit their proposals for their sports to become Olympic. The decision to include or exclude these sports or disciplines from the Olympic calendar is made during the IOC sessions.
The values of Olympism
Therefore, this platform is dedicated to Olympism and its values. We will strive to make it easier for our readers to follow the competitions they are interested in. Whether it’s through articles explaining the «tricks» required to access various websites of international federations or through our weekly calendar.
We believe in sports as a vital function, not only conditioning our bodies but also our minds and way of being. As mentioned earlier, Olympism encompasses positive values that should be reflected in society.
Sports culture exists in Spain, but it is not predominant as football takes center stage. Nonetheless, many football fans also respect, appreciate, and strive for excellence in other sports. These are the core values of Olympism and the Olympic Games.
Through this project, we will give our utmost to help each of our readers discover new things, learn something they may not know, and immerse themselves in the world of Olympism.
What is Olympism for «Deporte Olímpico»?
We are those «type» of people, or the so-called enthusiasts, who, every four years, for two weeks, do not leave the streets of our towns or cities because we spend our days watching sports. Yes, during those days, we are watching and experiencing the Olympic Games.
Why do we do it? Because it brings us happiness, joy, and excitement. For us, the values of Olympism are camaraderie, friendship, struggle, overcoming challenges, competitiveness, determination, passion, unity, among many others.
Why do we say it’s about struggle, overcoming challenges, and determination? Simply because it is true. Each and every athlete has to overcome numerous obstacles on a daily basis (injuries, lack of funding, academic commitments) to pursue their dreams. Such achievements are not possible without sacrifice.
As they say in the prominent Olympic forum in Spain, Pasaporte Olímpico, «the Games are not every four years; they are every day.» We invite you to enjoy this journey day by day with us and our great athletes.
